Berakhah Ocean Adventures — whale-swim tours and bungalow stays on one booking engine

A Tongan whale-swim and island-touring operator needed tours and private bungalow stays bookable online, with availability that reflects a short July-October season. We built the booking engine, the stays model, the staff console and the waivers.

The challenge

Where they started

Berakhah runs small-group humpback whale swims, island-hopping and snorkelling trips from Tongatapu, alongside private bungalow stays. The season is short and demand is concentrated, so a booking that cannot be confirmed instantly is a booking lost to a competitor or an agent. Tours and accommodation also behave differently: one is a dated departure with a seat count, the other is a multi-night request that needs a human. Treating them as the same product would have made both worse.

What we built

The platform, piece by piece

1 / 6

Tour booking with real availability

A calendar driven by availability rules, including automatic generation of recurring departures, so the season opens once instead of being rebuilt week by week.

2 / 6

Bungalow stays as their own model

Stays get a separate listing, galleries and a request-to-book flow with an admin inbox — because a multi-night stay needs a conversation, not a checkout.

3 / 6

Stripe payments, refunds and abandoned carts

Card payment at the point of booking, with refunds handled in-platform and abandoned checkouts recovered rather than silently dropped.

4 / 6

Staff console for the dock

A /manage/ workspace with separate Tours and Stays views, live booking data, filters, CSV export and a drawer for editing a booking without leaving the page.

5 / 6

Waivers, badges and check-in

Guest waivers are captured before the boat leaves, with check-in and badges handled on the same screen the crew already has open.

6 / 6

Customer portal and reminders

Guests can view and manage their own bookings, and transactional email plus reminders cut the 'what time do I need to be there' traffic.

Outcomes

What changed

  • · Tours and stays are bookable online instead of by message and bank transfer
  • · Availability for a short season is generated from rules, not maintained by hand
  • · Payments and refunds resolve in the platform, not in a spreadsheet
  • · Crew check-in and waivers happen on one screen at the dock
  • · The site carries its own SEO surface: articles, sitemaps, feeds and IndexNow
